A training of trainers' event has been held in Italy in order to test the new educational content for teaching innovation management: the teaching methodology, course, and training materials by mentors/trainers. Its purpose was to reach multiplier effect by having trained 22 trainers – professors, researchers, as well as representatives from the business and prepare them to select students and companies for the next phase of testing - the pilot courses with students as well as for further work with the methodology. While it was initially planned to prepare a total of 22 trainees, the number has later been reduced to 14 due to cutting the budget for the training of the Italian partner by the National Agency.

The training involved both academic and management preparation of the mentors as they were to be the ultimate managers of the project/course with the students and in charge of managing the relationships and communication with the clients so that they can ensure limited time and responsibilities for the managers. Mentors' main tasks were planned to include the coordination of necessary logistics and final evaluation of students. Professors were trained also to assume a new role - to act as coachers and facilitators in the teaching process.
